Some of you may have heard this story before. It used to be widely believed that it was impossible to run a mile in less than four minutes. Try as they might, even the world’s top athletes could not break this seemingly insurmountable barrier. Scientists came out with hard, scientific evidence that it couldn’t be done.
Then in 1964, a medical student from Britain by the name of Roger Bannister successfully ran a mile in under four minutes. It was big news, and Bannister became famous.
But what was even more exciting was that, after Bannister destroyed the Four Minute Barrier, something magical happened. Other athletes began to see that it was possible to run the four minute mile, and started breaking the barrier too.
You see, the Four Minute Barrier did exist, but only in the minds of men. Once Bannister shattered that barrier, the limitations in other runners’ minds were also shattered.
What does this have to do with smoking?
Many smokers believe that quitting smoking is too hard, or even impossible. They continue smoking simply because they don’t believe they can actually quit.
But there are millions of ex-smokers out there who have successfully quit and continue to be ex-smokers to this day, and you can leverage their efforts to help your own cause.
You see, smokers very often hang around other smokers, because they enjoy their cigarettes together. But spending all your time with other smokers only serves to make you feel that it’s okay to quit, or that if other people can’t quit you probably can’t quit either.
Instead of hanging around other smokers, why not leverage the power of the ex-smokers out there?
Find an ex-smoker, or even a group of ex-smokers, and ask them how they successfully quit smoking. Ask them what it feels like, how it feels to be an ex-smoker, and whether they regret quitting smoking. I’m sure 100% of all true ex-smokers will tell you how wonderful it is to be healthy and to no longer be coughing all the time.
The best thing to do is to meet some ex-smokers face to face. Ask your friends and relatives whether they know any ex-smokers who would be willing to help you out. If you can’t find any in your area, you may want to go online and post in your favorite forum or online community to ask for help. You may call your local government or non-profit organization that promotes quitting smoking and ask them if they can put you in touch with any other ex-smokers.
The more ex-smokers you meet, the more you will be convinced that it is possible to truly quit smoking. And the more you are convinced, the easier it will be for you to finally quit smoking as well.
